Researchers Founded First CCEFP Technology Transfer Company

Achievement date:
2013
Outcome/accomplishment:

Purdue University researchers established Smart Hydraulic Solutions LLC as a technology transfer company of the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP), an NSF-funded Engineering Research Center (ERC) headquartered at the University of Minnesota.

Impact/benefits:

This accomplishment is a step on the road to helping companies introduce to markets a revolutionizing technology known as displacement-controlled (DC) actuation. See illustrative applications in the accompanying figure.

Explanation/Background:

The successful implementation and demonstration of energy-saving DC actuation technology through the CCEFP mini-excavator test bed has led to increased world-wide interest by members of the fluid-power industry and machine manufacturers. One of the CCEFP young researchers became chief engineer at Smart Hydraulic Solutions after completion of his PhD study.
