Precollege Outreach Results in Activity Kits for Students and Teachers

Outcome/Accomplishment

Continuing to build outreach efforts, a committee of faculty and staff developed activity kits to use at all sites of the Center for Innovative and Strategic Transformation of Alkane Resources (CISTAR), based at Purdue University and an NSF-funded Engineering Research Center (ERC).

Impact/Benefits

The Center's outreach efforts impacted more than 5,500 K-12 students and 315 teachers across the country. With faculty and staff from all the Center's core partners working together, participants in the Center's outreach programs are offered a wider range of experiences and contacts.

Explanation/Background

In addition to developing activity kits, the Center formalized a partnership with the Purdue School of Engineering Education and its INSPIRE Research Institute for Pre-College Engineering. At the University of New Mexico, students joined undergraduates for workshops, as well as an end-of-summer poster session and outreach event at New Mexico State Fair.
