Partnership Links UK Centers with US Partners in Researching Quantum Networks

Outcome/Accomplishment

A €3 million partnership with institutions in Ireland and Northern Ireland to investigate quantum internet technologies was launched by researchers at the Center for Quantum Networks (CQN), an NSF-funded Engineering Research Center (ERC) based at the University of Arizona.

Impact/Benefits

The partnership will enable the participating Centers to leverage each other's strengths through steady collaboration. Called CoQREATE (Convergent Quantum REsearch Alliance in TElecommunications), the project creates a unique multinational collaborative environment that brings together expertise across emerging quantum technologies and classical networking technologies.

Explanation/Background

The investment represents a joint research and development partnership between NSF, the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. It spans three UK Centers along with CQN and will fund at least ten research positions. The partnership will formulate a competitive, project-based plan to administer the Center-to-Center program and equip it to best meet its goals.
