Contribute as a public research center to the generation, advancement and dissemination of knowledge for the development of the country and humanity, through the identification and solution of scientific and technological problems and the training of specialists in the areas of Astrophysics, Optics, Electronics, Computer Science and related areas. Vision To be a public research center with high international leadership in the field of scientific research, technological development and training of highly trained human resources within the areas of competence of the Institute, committed to national development through the promotion of social values of solidarity, creativity and high competitiveness. The INAOE, the first scientific institution founded outside Mexico City, is the promoter of the most ambitious scientific project in the country's history: the Great Millimeter Telescope. It also participates in the Gran Telescopio Canarias project, is the main technological partner of the Secretariat of the Navy, and is host to the International Advanced Astrophysics Program "Guillermo Haro," of the Mexican Virtual Observatory, of the National Nanoelectronics Laboratory, of the Development Center of MEMS and the Regional Center for Teaching Space Science and Technology for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mexico campus

Linking and Services The Directorate of Technological Development of INAOE is the area responsible for linking part of the institution's scientific and technological work with the private company and with the governmental sphere, with the objective of helping to solve the problems in the country. In addition to being the link between the Institute and society, it is the unit responsible for capturing its own economic resources. For several years now, the Technological Development Department of INAOE offers services to external sectors through specialized projects and courses aimed at the industry. Specific projects have solved specific problems of the private industry as well as the public sector, developing knowledge and technology. Through this link, the Institute has demonstrated that basic and applied science can be transferred to the productive and services sector in the form of equipment, processes and methods, which increase competition and generate new jobs for highly trained personnel.
