ERC for Re-Inventing the Nation’s Urban Water Infrastructure

 Award No. 1028968

The ERC for Re-inventing the Nation’s Urban Water Infrastructure (ReNUWIt) will facilitate the transition of water systems to a new state in which they consume less energy and resources while continuing to meet the needs of urban users and aquatic ecosystems. ReNUWIt researchers are working to advance urban water reinvention by developing valued technologies and concepts for reinvention while striving to obtain recognition as a global leader in the field and simultaneously preparing ReNUWIt students to lead future efforts. ReNUWIt’s research program addresses both fundamental and systems-level barriers to technology development and adoption of urban water reinvention. Through comprehensive research efforts focused on the development of tools for future investments in urban water infrastructure; the development of new, modular technologies to be used with existing yet underutilized technologies in place; and the development of technologies for managing natural systems to treat and store water while improving urban aesthetics, ReNUWIt works to solve a host of problems that threaten the Nation’s public heath, ecosystems, and economic vitality.
